Tchebichef image moment approach to the prediction of protein secondary structures based on circular dichroism

Abstract: Circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopy is a widely used technique for the evaluation of protein secondary structures that has a significant impact for the understanding of molecular biology. However, the quantitative analysis of protein secondary structures based on CD spectra is still a hard work due to the serious overlap of the spectra corresponding to different structural motifs. Here, Tchebichef image moment (TM) approach is introduced for the first time, which can effectively extract the chemical features … Show more

“…That is to say the SC-3D spectrum was directly constructed through doubling the corresponding original spectrum, and the information of the SC-3D spectrum and the corresponding original spectrum is exactly the same. The Tchebichef moment method has been successfully applied on the basis of 1 H nuclear magnetic resonance SC-3D spectra, 25 circular dichroism SC-3D spectra, 26 and NIR SC-3D spectra 27 owing to the multiple advantages of Tchebichef moment, such as inherent invariance property, image description capability, and multiresolution capability. In the following research, we have found that the SC-3D spectra constructed by the above way have some deficiencies.…”

“…In order to solve this problem, discrete orthogonal moments such as Krawtchouk, Tchebichef, Hahn, Charlier and Meixner moments have been successfully introduced within the field of image analysis [27,31,50,70]. The implementation of these moments does not require any numerical approximation since the basis set is orthogonal in the discrete domain of the image coordinate space [12,44].…”
