TDNetGen: An Open-Source, Parametrizable, Large-Scale, Transmission, and Distribution Test System

Abstract: Abstract-In this paper, an open-source MATLAB toolbox is presented that is able to generate synthetic, combined transmission and distribution network models. These can be used to analyse the interactions between transmission and multiple distribution systems, such as the provision of ancillary services by active distribution grids, the co-optimization of planning and operation, the development of emergency control and protection schemes spanning over different voltage levels, the analysis of combined market as… Show more

“…In conventional DN simulation, the substation voltage is assumed fixed, thus TN's impact on substation is neglected. There have been some recent attempts to develop T-D co-simulation methods and platforms [144]- [146] but there is still a large scope of customizing utilizing these platforms for the concerned DER Volt/Var application.…”

“…In response to this need, several software platforms for ITD simulation have recently been developed [32][33][34][35]. Aristidou et al [32] propose a platform for the specific purpose of analyzing the voltage stability of transmission and distribution system interactions.…”

“…Aristidou et al [32] propose a platform for the specific purpose of analyzing the voltage stability of transmission and distribution system interactions. Pilatte et al [33] report on the development of an open-source ITD platform referred to as ITDNetGen. This platform, based on MATPOWER, permits the solution of power flow and OPF problems in ITD systems.…”

“…According to Table 1, both DG‐based and the protection system (PS)‐based strategies can be implemented in an offline 15,22‐24 or online 8,25‐30 manner. In the offline methods, the coordination of protection devices is ensured in sizing and siting of DGs in the planning stage 6,31‐33 or output of DGs in operation stage 8,34‐36 . However, these methods may limit the penetration of DGs which in turn result in dissatisfaction of consumers and DG owners.…”
