The performance assessment of a small-scale irrigation project plays a vital role in evaluating its effectiveness and addressing potential shortcomings in achieving desired outcomes. This study aims to provide a comprehensive analysis of the Jato small-scale irrigation project, assessing its performance based on various criteria and indicators. The study evaluates the project's infrastructure maintenance and system efficiency. The designed command area of the scheme is seventy-five (75 ha) but the current irrigated area of the scheme is sixty (60ha) only. To achieve the objectives, primary and secondary data were collected. To gather both primary and secondary data, data-gathering techniques include surveys, interviews, field observations, and meteorological data. Before, during, and after an irrigation event, while farmers were carrying out their regular irrigation practices, several field characteristics were measured and/or observed. These data included the type of crop, irrigation water discharge in the canal, and field size. A survey concerning the availability of water was also carried out among farmers. CROPWAT 8.0 Software was used to organize the crop pattern of the study area along with other relevant data, including soil, climate, rain crop, and crop pattern. Water flow measurement results of the Jato small-scale irrigation scheme at the head, middle, and tail of the lined & unlined main canal were found to be 53.6l/s, 45.4 l/s, and 29.9l/s respectively. The average water flow measurement result of the scheme is 43l/s which reduced from required flow by 18.15l/s. From the analyses of the water balance indicators, the canal conveyance efficiency, canal conveyance loss, application efficiency, and overall efficiency were found to be 70%, 30%, 70%, and 50% respectively. The overall average main canal conveyance efficiency and water conveyance loss were below the recommended values. The studies have shown that the effective infrastructure, irrigation ratio, and water surface elevation ratio of the scheme were found to be 66.7%, 80%, and 66% respectively. However, there were certain areas for improvement identified, such as the need for better coordination among project stakeholders and enhanced maintenance practices to ensure the long-term functionality of irrigation infrastructure.

Irrigation is taken as not only improving the living habits of the societies but also having the ability to avoid the uncertainty that comes with climate change. This study was conducted to evaluate the hydraulic performance of Kelina's small-scale irrigation scheme using selected performance indicators. Primary data like applied water measurement at head, middle and tail reach of the field, taking soil samples for determination of (moisture content, field capacity. permanent wilting point and total available water), canal flow measurement, field observation and focal group discussion and secondary data like (meteorological data, cropping data and data related to design document of irrigation scheme) were taken from the concerned institutions. After the data were taken the data were analyzed by empirical formula, CROPWAT model and Microsoft Excel. The data has been analyzed by Based on the results obtained, the study area has a clay type soil with a total available water of 122.3mm/m and a 0.54cm/hr infiltration rate. The ratio of relative water supply and relative irrigation supply was 0.92 and 0.83, respectively, which indicates a shortage of water supply since the ratio is less than one. The overall water delivery performance indicators like adequacy, equity, efficiency, and dependability have been 83, 0.11, 0.91, and 0.18 percent, respectively. The conveyance efficiency, application efficiency, deep percolation ratio, and overall scheme efficiency were 58.32, 67.57, 32.43, and 39.41%, respectively. The irrigable area was reduced by 23% and the number of infrastructures was reduced by 44.75%. Generally, the current performance of the irrigation scheme is classified as fair performance. Due to this, providing night storage, regular maintenance, and flow control structures at each off gate were recommended that enables the scheme to perform well.

Performance evaluation of irrigation scheme is vital for realizing the present status and identifying the area for improvement. The study was conducted in Woybo irrigation scheme which is located in Boloso Sore district, Wolaita zone, Southern Ethiopia. This study was aimed to evaluate the performance of Woybo irrigation scheme with internal performance indicators. A total of nine demonstrating farmers' fields were selected from three canal reaches (head, middle, and tail) through purposive sampling. Primary and secondary data were collected, recorded, and analyzed. To measure the water applied to each experimental field, Parshall flume was installed, and soil samples were taken to determine soil texture, field capacity, permanent wilting point, and soil moisture content before and after each irrigation event at regular soil depth intervals. The results revealed that the mean conveyance efficiency was 60.85% and the application efficiency was 48.53%. Water distribution uniformity, deep percolation, and storage efficiencies were 84.56%, 51.47%, and 85.22%, respectively. However, the overall irrigation efficiency was found to be 29.53%, which was poorly performed due to inadequate water application, ineffective field water management, and low efficiency in water delivery systems. The main factors contributing to the poor water delivery performance included failures in water regulating gates, leakages, and siltation of canals. To address these problems, recommendations are made such as improvements in water application techniques should be implemented, through proper irrigation scheduling, water conservation practices, surge irrigation techniques, and providing extension support, training, and experience sharing. Additionally, maintenance and lining of earthen canals are necessary, along with the replacement and repair of leakages and broken water regulating and controlling structures. These measures can help to upgrade water delivery efficiency and improve the overall performance of the irrigation scheme.
