Technique and proof of patency of microsurgical lympho‐lymphonodular anastomoses: A study in the rat model

“…Other advantages of our model are availability of experimented animals, accessibility of operation fields, and convenience of LVA evaluation. Among various animals used for experiments, rats are one of the most commonly used ones and easy to manage compared with larger animals . Lymphatic vessels in other body parts of rat, including the tail, the forefoot, and the retroperitoneal space, can be used as LVA model.…”

“…Yamamoto et al reported the first case of VLNT and ELLA in a primary lymphedema patient with progressive unilateral left LEL [24]. Wallmichrath et al reported lympho-lympho-nodular anastomoses and further the detection of a spontaneous formation in the rat model [25,26].…”

“…Otherwise, if we are in the proximity of a lymph node, reconstructing lymph drainage through connection to a lymph node could be another technical option. 16 The use of vein grafts has also been suggested. 17 Apart from this, a partial sectioning of the vein's wall is needed to create a window when performing end-to-side anastomosis.…”
