Technology in Kerala's High School Classrooms

Abstract

In this empirical study conducted within the educational context of Kerala, we investigated the impact of hardware operation skills and personal Information and Communication Technology (ICT) usage on the effective utilization of ICT in the teaching-learning process. Utilizing the Teachers' ICT Skills Scale (TICT), which includes dimensions such as basic hardware operations, personal ICT usage, and ICT usage for teaching, we collected data through an e-questionnaire distributed to high school teachers. The analysis, performed using advanced statistical methods including Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) with SPSS and SmartPLS 4, revealed that hardware operation skills have a significant and positive influence on the use of ICT in education, thus confirming our first hypothesis (H1). The study provided robust evidence supporting our second hypothesis (H2), which posited a positive relationship between personal ICT usage and the utilization of ICT in the teaching-learning process.
