Technology review: prototyping platforms for monitoring ambient conditions

Abstract: The monitoring of ambient conditions in indoor spaces is very essential owing to the amount of time spent indoors. Specifically, the monitoring of air quality is significant because contaminated air affects the health, comfort and productivity of occupants. This research work presents a technology review of prototyping platforms for monitoring ambient conditions in indoor spaces. It involves the research on sensors (for CO, air quality and ambient conditions), IoT platforms, and novel and commercial prototypin… Show more

“…The systematic literature review found three different types of technologies: the IoT and sensors, AI/MI/DL and CFD modeling. It was analyzed that most of these technologies help monitor the IAQ and give real-time data to facility managers, building owners and building occupants (Afolaranmi et al , 2018; Caquilpán P. et al , 2019; Kannaki et al , 2020; Pantazaras et al , 2018; Park et al , 2019; Parkinson et al , 2019). IoT and AI/MI/DL algorithms are used together to provide useful information.…”

“…All of them had sub-categories as shown in Figure 5. IAQ depends on CO 2 , CO, O 3 , NO 2 , SO 2 , PM and VOCs (Abdul-Wahab et al, 2015;Afolaranmi et al, 2018;Brauer et al, 2013). The sources of contamination and their effect on human health are given in Table 1.…”
