Telangiectatic osteosarcoma affecting the mandible

Abstract: Osteosarcomas are relatively rare in jaws and maxillomandibular lesions in children are distinctly uncommon. Telengiactic osteosarcomas in jaws are still a very rare variant and till now just 3 cases are reported in English literature. Herein, we report the first case of telangiectatic osteosarcoma occurring in mandible in pediatric patient. Patient was treated by hemimandibulectomy and is free of disease since seven years with regular follow-up.

“…[ 1 ] A more frequent occurrence is seen in men than women with a ratio of about 1.5:1 and mandibular lesions reported more often than maxillary though some studies suggest equal distribution in both. “…TOS consists of multiple characteristic dilated aneurysmal cavities containing blood, with highly malignant sarcoma cells being present at the peripheral margins and septations surrounding these cavities (7). As this is a very rare form of cancer, no largescale clinical studies of TOS have been conducted to date, and case reports (8)(9)(10) and animal studies (11)(12)(13) thus account for the bulk of research related to this condition. Given these limitations, the clinical characteristics and prognosis of TOS remain poorly understood.…”

Also primary telangiectatic osteosarcoma of a non‐functioning kidney (Gordillo et al., ) has been reported in humans.…”
