Tellurium quantum dots: Preparation and optical properties

Abstract: Herein, we report an effective and simple method for producing Tellurium Quantum dots (TeQDs), zero-dimensional nanomaterials with great prospects for biomedical applications. Their preparation is based on the ultrasonic exfoliation of Te powder dispersed in 1-methyl-2-pyrrolidone. Sonication causes the van der Waals forces between the structural hexagons of Te to break so that the relatively coarse powder breaks down into nanoscale particles. The TeQDs have an average size of about 4 nm. UV-Vis absorption spe… Show more

“…It can be seen that a higher excitation energy (λ Ex = 320 nm) led to a larger Stokes shift (71 nm), whereas a lower excitation energy (λ Ex = 460 nm) resulted in a smaller Stokes shift (59 nm). The difference in Stokes shift is probably due to the size distribution of the prepared QDs, which has also been observed from Se QDs and Te QDs [27,28]. Comparing the PL and PLE peaks, Fig.…”

“…2e and was deconvoluted into components, such as Ta 4f 7/2 (23.2 eV), Ta 4f 5/2 (25.6 eV), and Ta 4f 7/2 (27.2 eV). The Ta 4f 7/2 peak at 27.2 eV is associated with oxidized tantalum [24,25]; oxidation has also been observed in other QDs [26][27][28]. and A 1g modes relate to the in-plane and out-of-plane vibration respectively [29].…”

“…[138] This strategy was also extended to prepare Te nanodots by another group. [140] Han et al substituted the grinding process with a salt-assisted ball milling step (Figure 3d) to enhance production efficiency. [45] This strategy enables large scale production of defect-free MoS 2 and WS 2 nanodots from their bulk crystals with high yields of 25.5 and 20.1 wt%, respectively.…”

“…Various strategies were implemented to form Te nanostructures, such as solution-based approaches, liquid-phase exfoliation and vapor deposition. In the past decade, Te nanocrystals with a variety of dimensions, including zero dimension (0D), 52–55 one dimension (1D) 56–62 and two dimension (2D) 63–69 nanostructures have been successfully synthesized.…”
