Temperature and Exciton Concentration Induced Excimer Emission of 4,4′-Bis(4′′-Triphenylsilyl) Phenyl-1,1′-Binaphthalene and Application for Sunlight-Like White Organic Light-Emitting Diodes

Abstract: This paper demonstrates the influence of temperature, exciton concentration, and electron transportation layers on the excimer emission of a novel deep-blue material: 4,4′-bis(4′′-triphenylsilyl) phenyl-1,1′-binaphthalene (SiBN), by studying the photoluminescence and electroluminescence spectra of SiBN-based film. We have further developed sunlight-like and warm-light white organic light-emitting diodes (WOLEDs) with high efficiency and wide-range spectra, using SiBN and bis(2-phenylbenzothiozolato-N,C2′)iridi… Show more

“…We show here that the HA/AV 2 and HA/AV 3 samples exhibit balanced contributions over the entire visible range of the electromagnetic spectrum with components well-distributed in the blue, green, yellow, and red regions, generating white emissions. Another important fact is the format of the continuous emission profile corresponding to the HA/AV 3 sample, which is similar to the daylight spectrum . Hence, by avoiding the discontinuity of the emission profile in this sample, some benefits arise for possible applications of HA/AV systems, such as an accurate emulation of natural daylight color or incandescent light on digital screens .…”

“…Another important fact is the format of the continuous emission profile corresponding to the HA/AV 3 sample, which is similar to the daylight spectrum. 65 Hence, by avoiding the discontinuity of the emission profile in this sample, some benefits arise for possible applications of HA/AV systems, such as an accurate emulation of natural daylight color or incandescent light on digital screens. 66 The method proposed here, by combining two semiconductors, exhibits intense self-activated PL emissions and opens the door for obtaining tunable emissions and white light from materials.…”

“…Single molecular chromophores emitting throughout the entire visible spectrum are very rare and rely on the production of additional luminophores, e.g . exciplexes , excimers , intramolecular proton transfer states , aggregates , as well as on dual fluorescence arising from S 1 and S 2 states . Unfortunately, the white fluorescence quantum yields for these systems are too low.…”

“…Interestingly, controlling the excimer state in devices can show color tunability in devices by [19,[21][22][23]. Excimer emission in OLED devices has also resulted in white OLEDs (WOLEDs) [24][25][26][27]. There are several applications of excimer-based studies in the fields of chemistry, biology, and material science [28][29][30][31][32][33].…”
