Temperature‐Controlled Solvothermal Syntheses, Structures and Characterizations of a Novel Class of Zn Complexes Constructed from 1,4‐Bis[2‐(5‐phenyloxazolyl)]benzene

Abstract: Three novel complexes, ZnCl2(H2O)(POPOP)·POPOP) (1), [ZnCl2(POPOP)]n (2), and {Zn2(CH3COO)(POPOP)1.5Cl3}n (3) {POPOP = 1,4‐bis[2‐(5‐phenyloxazolyl)]benzene}, of zinc−POPOP coordination polymers have been obtained from an identical starting mixture using temperature as the only independent variable. Complexes 1−3 all crystallize in the triclinic P$\bar 1$ space group, but their ZnII centers adopt different coordinations. Complex 1 consists of POPOP‐coordinated zinc units and discrete POPOP molecules, 2 feature… Show more

“…As far as we know, the formation of MOFs is influenced by many factors, such as metal ions, organic ligands, counterions, solvent molecules and pH of the reaction mixture, etc. [11,12]. Among these factors, the selection of organic ligands is one of the most important aspects [13,14].…”

“…However, it remains difficult to predict the exact structures and control the construction of these CPs [11,12] because they might be affected by many factors, such as geometry of organic ligands, coordination number of metal ions, solvents, temperature, etc. [13][14][15][16]. Mixed ligand assembly strategies incorporating imidazole-based ligands and multicarboxylates have been verified as an effective approach for construction of coordination networks [17][18][19][20][21][22].…”

“…As it is known, it is still a big challenge to predict the final structures of desired crystalline products, since the self-assembly process of crystalline products is influenced by many factors, such as metal ions, organic ligands, counter ions, solvent system, temperature, and pH of reaction system [3][4][5]. The delicate balance between the adaptability of the organic ligands with the plentiful and versatile coordination modes of the central metals as well as the coparticipation of counteranions and solvent molecules leads to the formation of either discrete polynuclear complexes or infinite coordination polymers, affording great opportunities for the construction of novel and unusual metal−organic crystalline materials [6,7].…”
