Temperature-dependent Development Model of the Striped Fruit Fly, Bactrocera scutellata (Hendel)(Diptera: Tephritidae)

Abstract: The striped fruit fly, Bactrocera scutellata, damages pumpkin and other cucurbitaceous plants. The developmental period of each stage was measured at seven constant temperatures (15, 18, 21, 24, 27, 30, and 33±1.0℃). The developmental time of eggs ranged from 4.2 days at 15℃ to 0.9 days at 33℃. The developmental period of larvae was 4.2 days at 15℃, and slowed in temperatures above 27℃. The developmental period of pupa was 21.5 days at 15℃ and 7.6 days at 33℃. The mortality of eggs was 17.1% at 15℃ and 22.9% a… Show more

“…To prevent economic damage to crops, extensive control and eradication programs have been devised in various parts of the world (Vargas et al, 2015). The striped fruit fly Zeugodacus scutellata , is found in Korea, Thailand, India, China, Taiwan, and Japan (Guang‐qin et al, 1993; Jeon, Cho, et al, 2011; Shiraki, 1968). Larvae of Z. scutellata feed on the flowers and fruits of Cucurbitaceae plants (Ohno et al, 2006).…”

“…The striped fruit fly, Bactrocera scutellata, is distributed in east and southeast Asia (Jeon et al 2011). The species is recognized from other Zeugodacus fruit fly with three postsutural yellow vittae by possession of a pair of medium-sized circular black spots across the face, 2 pairs of scutellar bristles, and the costal band slightly enlarged at the apex (Sugimoto et al 1988).…”
