Temperature Effects on the Production of Carbon Nanotubes from Palm Oil by Thermal Chemical Vapor Deposition Method

Abstract: In this study we report the effect of various synthesis temperatures of 600 - 1000°C for the synthesis of carbon nanotubes (CNT). Bio-hydrocarbon precursor namely palm oil was utilized as a starting material by thermal vapor deposition method. Ferrocene at 5.33 wt% was directly mixed with palm oil precursor for 30 mins synthesis time. The prepared CNT was collected from the furnace wall and then characterized by field emission scanning electron microscopy, scanning transmission electron microscopy, fourier tra… Show more

“…GO as the initial material for rGO production was synthesized by electrochemical exfoliation utilizing hyper-branched TC14 surfactant, which also has been proven in previous reports to give better performance as compared to commercial sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS) surfactant [9][10][11]42,43]. Meanwhile, the MWCNTs were synthesized by a modified thermal CVD (TCVD) method utilizing waste cooking palm oil as the carbon source [44][45][46][47][48][49][50][51]. The TC14-rGO_MWCNTs hybrid film was then coated with a 10 nm layer of thin Pt NPs to further increase the surface area of the fabricated CE film.…”

“…Recently, we reported the use of WEO for the production of another carbon material namely CNTs [21] and amorphous Al-Cu alloy nanowires decorated with CS [22]. The use of waste [23][24][25][26][27] and natural precursors [28][29][30][31][32][33][34][35][36] to produce carbon materials may not only be beneficial for nanotechnology research field but also preserve the environmental sustainability at the same time. The CS were synthesised using thermal chemical vapour deposition (TCVD) method while the ZnO were synthesised using the sol-gel method.…”
