Abstract:Temporally modulated optical media are important in both abstract and applied applications, including time crystals, spacetime transformation optics, and dynamically controllable metamaterials. Here we investigate the behaviour of temporal boundaries, an important component in time crystals, and which have a range of potentially exotic properties. We show that traditional approaches based on an assumption of constant dielectric properties, with loss incorporated as an imaginary part, lead necessarily to unphys… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
