“…The soil under native secondary forest showed lower volume of blocked pores in all soil layers, when compared with the soil cultivated with banana, which corroborates the results obtained by Alencar (2014) and by Zúñiga et al (2015). Particularly in the 0.0-0.1-m soil layer, the soil under secondary native forest showed almost the totality of its pores available for gas flow, with only 0.39% of blocked pores.…”

“…The field experiments were established in Valdivia agro‐ecosystems (South of Chile) two different sowing dates, on 2 Sept. 2015 (late sowing‐season 1) and on 4 July 2016 (early sowing‐season 2), at the Estación Experimental Agropecuaria Austral (39°46′ S, 73°13′ W) of the Universidad Austral de Chile. The soil was developed from deposits of volcanic ash over marine sediments, classified as Duric Hapludand, corresponding to the “Valdivia series” (Centro de Informaciόn de Recursos Naturales [CIREN], 2003; Luzio & Casanova, 2006), characterized by soil organic matter contents of >12.0% (Dörner et al., 2015), bulk density <.9 Mg m –3 (Zúñiga, Ivelic‐Sáez, Lόpez, Huygens, & Dörner, 2015), and a clay fraction dominated by short‐range‐order minerals (CIREN, 2003). The Valdivia agro‐ecosystem is characterized by a temperate rainy climate with a marine influence, and an average temperature of 12°C and rainfall of 2500 mm per year (Gonzalez‐Reyes & Muñoz, 2013).…”
