Tenability Analysis of Television Set Fires in a Sprinkler Protected Compartment

Abstract: This paper describes an evaluation of the performance of a fast response residential sprinkler system in a simulated apartment in the event of a fire caused by a burning television set. The evaluation was conducted in an 8m × 4m × 2.4m high gypsum plasterboard lined compartment. A 1.2 m 2 lobby was used to represent an adjoining room and a standard hollow core door connected the two spaces. The compartment was fitted with two pendent mounted fast response residential sprinkler heads, and the television sets we… Show more

“…For flammable and explosive substances, if the gas cloud is ignited below the lower flammability limit, then the flash fire, even the explosion may be happen, and the most serious is that the toxic and toxic gas will cause damage to humans in very low concentrations. Leakage of toxic and hazardous substances can cause devastating accidents [2,3]. According to statistics analysis, the chemical disasters matters are handled by the police and fire department totally 35438 between 2000 and 2008, averaged 75 accidents are disposed per week, averaged 11 accidents are disposed a day [4].…”

“…However, even though the yield in g/g increases, water suppression can reduce the total yield in g, since the mass of burned material decreases, which has a positive effect on the safety of occupants. Shelley et al 11 have performed tenability analysis of TV set fires in a sprinkler protected compartment, inspecting survivability in post-sprinkler activation environment. fractional effective dose (FED) method by Purser was used to assess the tenability conditions.…”
