Terminalia catappa leaf extracts inhibited metastasis of A2058 and A375 melanoma cells via downregulating p-Src and β-catenin pathway in vitro

Abstract: Background: Melanoma is a highly aggressive, lethal, and malignant cancer. Once diagnosed early, it can be easily removed and cured with satisfaction. Although many methods such as surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and immunotherapy have been used to treat this disease at an advanced stage, the outcomes are poor. Terminalia catappa leaves have been shown to have various biological benefits, including antitumor activity. The specific effects and molecular mechanisms of Terminalia catappa leaf in treating A20… Show more

“…As for saponins, its mechanism damages the bacteria's cell membranes, releasing important components, such as proteins, nucleic acids, and nucleotides; thus, bacteria turn into lysed. [12][13][14][15][16] Previous studies have discussed the antibacterial activity of Ketapang against various bacteria, 17 but none has discussed its antibacterial activity against APEC. This study aimed to determine the activity of Ketapang extract (Terminalia cattapa L.) in layers infected with APEC.…”

“…This type of cancer is associated with a variety of risk factors, including UV exposure and genetic conditions. Patients who develop metastases and have a prognosis of about 5 years account for less than 20% [2]. Undetected and untreated at an early stage, it quickly spreads to lymph nodes and nearby organs.…”

“…Surgical treatment, unfortunately, has no positive effect when metastasis is present. Therefore, there is a great need for new agents and therapeutic strategies [1][2][3]. Colorectal cancer accounts for 10.2% of all cancer cases and 9.2% of cancer deaths [4].…”

“…In Brazil, it is found mainly in the Northeast region of the country [10]. Its leaves have biologically active compounds with some activities described in the literature, including anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory [11], antidiabetic [12], antibacterial [13] and anticancer [14,15].…”
