Testing of sensor observation services

Abstract: Recently, sensor webs have been increasingly used to monitor and sense a multitude of observations for various applications, from simple phenomena, such as air pollution measurements, to complex events, for instance perimeter security, or effluent tracking. Therefore, the performance of sensor data delivery mechanisms is becoming more and more important to ensure that services dependent upon sensor web technology perform satisfactorily. In the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) Sensor Web Enablement (SWE) framew… Show more

“…These works and other recent studies [26]- [28] have come to the same conclusion that Deegree SOS has the fastest response time independently of the volume of the data processed. Indeed, "Deegree SOS" is suitable for more complex situations, whereas "52˚ North" is more suited for average data volumes.…”

“…Despite some SOS implementation being available on the market, at the current knowledge of the authors, no studies on performance of any SOS software are available in the literature to evaluate their applicability in real cases. Poorazizi et al [34] evaluated the performance of three SOS software implementations in serving data under varying number of sensors and filters on area and time interval but only under normal condition (a single user). The performance evaluation of SOS implementations under high loads (concurrent users) and varying data serving scenarios mimicking existing environmental monitoring network is currently not available in literature.…”
