“…Indeed, the type of training that members of the military receive may result in habituation specific to that training, as suggested in the study by Scoville et al (2004). Silva's work is, further, consistent with research from Anestis, Khazem, Mohn, and Green (2015) that demonstrated that the interaction between thwarted belongingness and perceived burdensomeness was associated with suicidal ideation, and that the three-way interaction between thwarted belongingness, perceived burdensomeness, and AC was associated with lifetime suicide attempts. This effect was especially pronounced among those with a high AC for suicide.…”

“…Indeed, our results are consistent with Anestis et al. (), who found that the interaction between TB and PB was associated with suicidal ideation and that the interaction between TB, PB, and AC was associated with lifetime suicide attempts among a large primarily National Guard sample.…”

“…The nonsignificant results for analyses including perceived burdensomeness was surprising given previous research demonstrating that this variable is particularly important in military samples (Bryan et al., ) relative to thwarted belongingness; however, recent work has demonstrated that thwarted belongingness appears to be at least an equally robust predictor of ideation within National Guard samples (Anestis, Khazem, Mohn, & Green, ). Our results do not necessarily speak to a less important role for perceived burdensomeness in understanding suicide ideation within the Army National Guard, but rather a lesser role for this variable in predicting the false denial of ideation.…”
