The 100 Most Cited Publications in Aging Research: A Bibliometric Analysis

BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVE: Many polio cases have been reported in recent years, which strongly affect the Global Polio Eradication Initiative campaign. This study aimed to determine the global trends in polio research during the last fifty years. METHODOLOGY: An online search was conducted utilizing the Web of Science Core Collection database. The key term used was “Polio*" and the retrieved documents were assessed for several attributes. The required graphs were generated using OriginPro 2018. Furthermore, the data were plotted for co-authorship organizations, co-authorship countries, and co-occurrence author keywords network visualization mapping using VOSviewer software for windows. RESULTS: A total of 2,345 publications were included, cited 22,872 times. The year 2017 was the most frequent year with 162 (6.91%) publications. The paper authored by Nomoto and colleagues published in 1977 was the leading paper with 237 citations. In total, Vaccine was the leading journal with 168 (7.16%) publications, followed by Journal of Infectious Diseases 106 (4.52%), and Lancet 77 (3.28%). The included publications were published from 132 countries, of which 44 countries contributed ≥10 publications. The United States of America was the leading country with the highest number of publications (n=740, 31.56%), followed by India (n=215, 9.17%), and England (n=180, 7.68%). CONCLUSION: This study provide researchers and policy makers with a comprehensive list of the key bibliometric characteristics and major contribution in polio research. Majority of the studies were published in developed countries. The developing countries need to make strong research collaborations with developed countries.

The 100 Top-Cited Studies on Loneliness: A Bibliometric Analysis

The present study explores characteristics of the top 100 most-cited articles on loneliness. A systematic search was carried out using the Thomson Reuters Web of Science Core Collection to collect studies on loneliness from inception to June 1, 2022. The initial search resulted in 6,250 search results, which included articles, book chapters, conference proceedings, editorials, and letters. Two authors independently screened the literature and extracted the data. The study supervisor removed any discrepancies. Top 100 papers (articles and reviews) on loneliness published in English were extracted. Data analysis and visualization were performed on Excel, Web of Science (WoS) Data Analyzer, and VOSviewer 1.6.16. The total number of citations of the 100 top-cited articles was 42,044, ranging from 203 to 2,201 per article. All of the studies were published from 1989 to 2021, and the years with the highest number of top-cited articles published were 2003 and 2008. Most publications were from the following journals: Computers in Human Behavior, Developmental Psychology, Psychological Science, Psychology, and Aging (n=4 each). The most cited article was titled "UCLA Loneliness Scale (Version 3): Reliability, validity, and factor structure" by Russell, DW, in the Journal of Personality Assessment. The most productive institute was the University of Chicago. The two most productive authors were Cacioppo, JT, and Hawkley, LC. Of the 100 top-cited publications, 87 were original articles and 13 were reviews. The top three WoS categories were psychology multidisciplinary, gerontology, and psychiatry. In total, 37 author keywords were elicited and further clubbed into eight distinct clusters. The study provides new insight into loneliness research, which may help doctors, researchers, and stakeholders achieve a more comprehensive understanding of trends and influential contributions to the field and highlight under-researched areas, which could be the basis for future investigation.

A bibliometric analysis of the top 100 most cited papers and research trends in breast cancer related BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes

This study aimed to identify, characterize, and map the important attributes of the top 100 most cited papers on BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes. The scientific literature on BRCA1 and BRCA2 was searched in the Web of Science Core Collection database using the keywords "BRCA1" OR "BRCA2" (Title). The top 100 most cited papers were selected based on citations. The obtained data were exported into HistCite TM , RStudio, and VOSviewer software for prerequisite analysis. The top 100 most cited papers on BRCA1 and BRCA2 were authored by 932 authors from 24 countries and published in 27 journals. These papers were cited 79,713 times, ranging from 441 to 4671 citations. The highly cited paper was cited 4671 times and published in Science (1994). The leading author, journal, publication year, institution, and country were Easton DF (n = 16), Nature Genetics (n = 11), 2002 (n = 11), University of Pennsylvania (n = 17), and the USA (n = 76), respectively. The results show that all the top 100 papers were produced in developed countries. The collaboration index among the authors was 9.49. The most frequently appeared keywords were ovarian-cancer, breast-cancer, mutations, gene, and familial breast. In recent times, the trend topics were patients, mutations, carriers, ovarian, and risk.
