The 2mass Redshift Survey—description and Data Release

Abstract: We present the results of the 2MASS Redshift Survey (2MRS), a ten-year project to map the full three-dimensional distribution of galaxies in the nearby Universe. The 2 Micron All-Sky Survey (2MASS) was completed in 2003 and its final data products, including an extended source catalog (XSC), are available on-line. The 2MASS XSC contains nearly a million galaxies with K s ≤ 13.5 mag and is essentially complete and mostly unaffected by interstellar extinction and stellar confusion down to a galactic latitude of … Show more

“…The selection and sample properties are described in detail in Ma et al (2014); we summarize salient details here for completeness. To emulate a stellar-mass selection, we select galaxies from the Two Micron All Sky Survey (2MASS) Redshift Survey (2MRS; Huchra et al 2012) that are brighter than a total K-band magnitude limit of…”

“…To model observed differences in energy distributions in Monte Carlo, we performed simulations using a propagation code CRPropa2.2.0.4 [8] and the source distribution from the 2MRS catalogue [9] using the density profile calculation described in [10]. Fig.…”

“…Knowing that in the 2r phy -z g diagram the angular size is represented by the slope of the trend, the dispersed relation of the HCG sample is explained the broader range of angular sizes found for the HCG sample. The 2MCG sample presents a more restricted redshift range below z∼0.05 for being a velocityfiltered group sample mainly retrieved from the 2MASS Redshift Survey (Huchra et al 2012) with a similar depth in redshift. Although the 2MCG sample is defined with the same compactness criterion, with a group K-band surface brightness threshold meant to match the R-band threshold of Hickson (1982), the 2MCGs are somewhat less compact.…”
