Abstract:Item response theory (IRT) models are often compared with respect to predictive performance to determine the dimensionality of the data gathered using educational and psychological instruments. However, such model comparisons could be biased toward nested-dimensionality IRT models (e.g., the bifactor model) when comparing those models to non-nested-dimensionality IRT models (e.g., a unidimensional or between-item-dimensionality model). The reason is that, compared to non-nested-dimensionality models, nested-di… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
