The Activation Energy and Some Structural Parameters of Thermally Treated Polypropylene Suture Fibers

Abstract: Multiple-beam Fizeau fringes in transmission were used to study the changes in optical parameters of thermally treated polypropylene PP suture fibers. Changes in the refractive indices and birefringence have been measured interferometrically on thermally treated PP suture fibers at temperatures of 19 to 40 AE 0.5 C. From the optical parameters; the mean polarizability of monomer units, the density, stress optical coefficient, the thermal stress and the activation energy of PP sutures were calculated. The resul… Show more

“…At annealing time 60 min the change in molecular orientation and also the crystallization process start slowly so the activation energy value was small but with annealing time 120 min there are increasing in the orientation and crystallization process so the activation energy value increases significantly. The obtained values are in agreement with that previously obtained for polymer sutures Fouda and Siesa ().…”

“…The effect of temperature on the birefringence of PGC surgical sutures due to the annealing process can be fitted with the equation of Arrhenius as follows Fouda and Siesa (). Δbold-italicn=A .normalexp[]|EnormalaRT where A is constant, E a is the activation energy, which is the minimum energy necessary for a specific chemical reaction to occur [KJ/mole], R is the universal gas constant (J K −1 mol −1 ), and T is the temperature in Kelvin.…”

“…It is desirable for a restorative dental material to have bioactive and bonding properties at the interface between the material and the tissue to prevent microleakage and ingress of bacteria. Polymeric materials have been used in medical and surgical applications for a number of years . The requirement of specific material differs according to the nature of the application, and there are different techniques in modifying and fabricating different compositions to achieve exact requirements for clinical use …”

“…Polymeric materials have been used in medical and surgical applications for a number of years. 4 The requirement of specific material differs according to the nature of the application, and there are different techniques in modifying and fabricating different compositions to achieve exact requirements for clinical use. 5 Carbon fiber-reinforced composites (CFRPs) are widely used as structural material in load bearing applications because of high strength and stiffness, dimensional and thermal stability, and corrosion resistance.…”
