The Ankylos Implant System: Concept and Clinical Application

Abstract: The success rate for this type of restoration was 98.7%. For free-end implant restorations, there were 1679 implants placed with a 97.9% success rate. When the edentulous area involved a large gap, a total of 805 implants were placed with a 97.3% success rate. For cases involving reduced dentition, 606 implants were used with a 95.8% success rate. Another significant finding was that the success rates classified by maxilla and mandible showed no differences.

“…In the present case, the patient sought treatment with temporary crowns in teeth 11 and 21, and a Morse taper implant replacing tooth 22. Mangano et al, 2014, stated minimum bone loss and high mechanical stability (NENTWIG, G. H., 2004;DIBART et al, 2005). Given the abutment was well positioned and had correct shape, the gingival contour and the presence of papillae provided an enhanced similarity to the crowns and adjacent teeth.…”

“…What is more, relatively high survival rates (98.2%) were seen involving 275 DENTSPLY Friadent ANKYLOS® implants loaded prosthetically in the form of a single crown, during an 8-year follow-up period [2]. Beyond the aforementioned, in one of his works, Nentwig [12] rated the survival of 5439 DENTSPLY Friadent ANKYLOS® implants, with an average prosthetic restoration loading time, as equal to 56.8 months. In the case of a single tooth, the survival rate was 98.7%, while the survival rate with a prosthetic supplement restoring missing posterior teeth was 97.9%.…”

“…The survival of the implants involves the following factors as well: the experience of the implantology center (multicenter study) [1,6], the dimensions of the implants (length, diameter) [19], the use of single or combined implants in the prosthetic phase [12], the place of implanting [6,7] and the habit of smoking [8,14]. At the same time, other publications have not demonstrated the effect of the above-mentioned and other factors on the survival of implants [4,5,7,9,13,18].…”

“…1 For a Morse taper implant, the friction at the tapered connection results in a high contact pressure and frictional resistance, causing limited strain that must be absorbed by the abutment screw thread, which differs from the butt joint where the screw alone keeps the abutment connected to the implant. 2,3 This mechanism provides excellent biological and mechanical stability and unusual prosthetic versatility; 4 in fact, the prosthetic versatility is similar to that of a hexagonal implant. A total of 2,549 Morse taper connection implants that were placed in 893 patients were evaluated, and the incidence of abutment loosening was 0.37% for Declaration of Interests: The authors certify that they have no commercial or associative interest that represents a conflict of interest in connection with the manuscript.…”
