“…In order to identify the microorganisms at the level of species, the tests were carried out in basic PY medium (peptone-yeast extract) with the addition of rhamnose, salicin or xylose (at a final concentration of I %) or arabinose or trehalose (at a final concentration of O' 5%) according to of the B. fragilis group in tissue necrosis and abscess formation, no member of this group was isolated from patients with gingival crevices or periodontal pockets, and it is probable that these bacteria were not associated with periodontal disease in the human population studied by Mueller et al (1980). But recently, Duerden et al (1987) isolated some strains of the Bacteroides fragilis group from patients with periodontal disease.…”

“…However, bacteria of this group are not considered autochthonous in the human oral cavity and reports on their isolation from this site are varied (Duerden et al, 1987;Mueller et al, 1980). In the present work, investigation of the B. fragilis group in samples from the oral cavity and from different sites in the intestinal tract of wild-caught Callithrix penicillata marmosets kept in cavity was considered of interest in comparative microbiology and, especially, in studies on the pathogenesis of human infectious diseases.…”
