Visual impairment is a highly prevalent condition worldwide. Oral health care in this group of patients is not always adequate. This is due to the low awareness of the importance of oral health in this population group and the fact that these patients prioritize their general health over oral health. Therefore, caries and periodontal disease are frequent in this population group. Especially, periodontal status is worse in patients with acquired visual impairment compared to patients with congenital visual impairment. On the other hand, the proportion of treated caries in this group is very low. This may be due to the poorer access of this population to dental care, which is limited by physical, social, and information barriers. Dental phobia and the lack of dental professionals capable of treating this population group have been identified as one of the most important factors. Therefore, establishing oral hygiene routines that are adapted to individuals’ skills and needs is essential to achieve good oral health and improve patient's quality of life. This narrative review also updates those dental treatment considerations, depending on each dental specialty, that can help improve patient satisfaction when they come to the dental office.

“…Por otra parte, en un estudio realizado en el Panel de Salud de Corea entre 2011 y 2014 12 se observó que la mayor parte de las personas que presentaba DV que asistían a consulta odontológica eran mujeres con edades entre 70 y 74 años, y que el motivo de consulta se debió principalmente a la necesidad de implantes y la presencia de enfermedad periodontal. Precisamente estas necesidades de tratamiento se asocian con la DV y la falta de cuidado dental, de ahí la importancia de realizar intervenciones para promover la salud y prevenir enfermedades, con el fin de evitar que la DV se convierta en una barrera para el autocuidado dental en estas personas.…”

Introducción: la literatura publicada relacionada con la salud bucal de las personas con discapacidad visual (DV) es escasa, esta población presenta barreras para el acceso a servicios odontológicos, tiene alta prevalencia de enfermedades bucodentales y está expuesta a factores de riesgo que aumentan su vulnerabilidad. Objetivo: realizar una revisión de la literatura científica para describir los estudios que abordan la salud bucal en personas con DV que sirva como insumo a los profesionales de la salud que atienden y educan a esta población. Métodos: revisión bibliográfica con enfoque descriptivo, se incluyeron 26 artículos originales. Los estudiosseleccionados fueron publicados en los últimos seis años (2014-2020 marzo) en inglés, portugués y español. Las bases de datos usadas fueron Biblioteca Virtual en Salud, SciELO, PubMed, Scopus y Clinical Key. Se usaron palabras clave combinadas con operadores booleanos “AND” y “OR”. Resultados: existen pocos estudios sobre la asistencia de las personas con DV a los servicios odontológicos. Se evidencian deficientes niveles de conocimientos y prácticas en salud bucal, lo que aumenta la vulnerabilidad frente a factores de riesgo para adquirir patologías en comparación con la población en general. La caries y enfermedad periodontal se reportan como las patologías bucales más prevalentes. En las intervenciones en promoción y educación para la salud se recomienda involucrar a padres, cuidadores y tutores para aumentar la tasa de éxito. Conclusiones: las personas con DV adquieren con facilidad patologías bucales, por lo tanto requieren atención odontológica e intervenciones de promoción de la salud adaptadas a sus necesidades.

Telemedycyna rozwijała się od lat, a rozpowszechnienie jej stosowania, do którego przyczyniła się pandemia SARS-CoV-2 sprawiło, że trudno wyobrazić sobie bez niej opiekę zdrowotną w przyszłości. Podobnie jak w przypadku innych działań z zakresu ochrony zdrowia, istnieje potrzeba kontrolowania jakości oddziaływań telemedycznych. Jednym z wyznaczników tej jakości jest dopasowanie usług do potrzeb ich odbiorców. Od lat zwraca się uwagę na fakt, iż osoby z niepełnosprawnościami mają trudności w dostępie do opieki zdrowotnej. Stąd pytanie, czy telemedycyna jest szansą na osiągnięcie równości, czy też stanowi kolejne zagrożenie dla tej grupy osób? Jakie wyzwania wiążą się ze stosowaniem usług medycznych opartych na nowoczesnych technologiach? Niniejsze opracowanie jest próbą odpowiedzi na te pytania w odniesieniu do osób z dysfunkcjami narządu wzroku. Słowa kluczowedostęp do opieki zdrowotnej, e-zdrowie, niepełnosprawność wzrokowa, telemedycyna, telezdrowie, wykluczenie cyfrowe.
