Abstract

In this paper we report on ethnographic fieldwork of the work of cellular pathologists as they grapple with the twin innovations of transitioning to digital biopsy images and the prospects for the adoption of clinical decision support systems (CDSS). We explore how they are adapting to the former and their expectations of the latter. We use this case study to emphasise the continuing importance of ethnomethodologically-informed ethnography as a tool to ensure the successful adoption of technological innovations in clinical settings.
