The Bgo-Od Experiment at Elsa

Abstract: Meson photoproduction is a key tool for the experimental investigation of the nucleon excitation spectrum. To disentangle the specific couplings of resonances, in addition to the rather well measured pion and eta photoproduction channels it is mandatory to obtain information on channels involving strange and vector mesons and higher mass pseudoscalar mesons, and the associated multi-particle final states with both charged and neutral particles. In this respect, the new BGO-OD experiment at the ELSA accelerator… Show more

“…The data was recorded turn-by-turn by the ADC of the DSP module resulting in a sampling frequency of 1.8236 MHz. Above noise 3 an exponential growth of the oscillation amplitude can be observed which confirms again that longitudinal coherent oscillations are already present at the storage ring for relatively moderate beam currents. After activation of the feedback system at 5 ms, the reduction of the amplitude within 300 μs and the damping performance of the system are clearly visible.…”

“…Within the collaborative research center SFB/TR16, which has been established in 2004, ELSA is serving two photoproduction experiments (CBELSA/TAPS [2] and BGO-OD [3]) with a quasi-continuous electron beam. The external electron beam is generated via slow resonance extraction from the storage ring over a periodically recurring time frame of a few seconds and converted to a photon beam via the process of bremsstrahlung.…”

“…• The BGO-OD experiment at ELSA: This experiment [19] is still in the setup phase. It is mentioned here because experiments to search for η mesic states have been suggested for this unique facility [20].…”

“…The BGO-OD experiment [17,18,19] has an extensive range of strangeness photoproduction proposals, with the first large dataset taken earlier this year 1 . The extremely forward charged particle acceptance, complemented by neutral particle reconstruction over a central region, allows the study of low momentum exchange processes and complicated mixed charge final states.…”
