The clinical and prognostic value of CXCL8 in cervical carcinoma patients: immunohistochemical analysis

Abstract: Cysteine-X-cysteine ligand 8 (CXCL8) was originally discovered as a proinflammatory chemokine. Recently, CXCL8 has been shown to act as an oncogene in several types of human cancers. However, the clinical and prognostic significance of CXCL8 in cervical cancer is poorly understood. In our study, we found that CXCL8 was highly expressed in cervical cancer tissues compared with normal cervical tissues in microarray datasets (GSE9750 and GSE7803). CXCL8 mRNA and protein expressions were increased in cervical canc… Show more

“…Quercetin reduces the expression of CXCL8, IL2, IL8 and IL6. CXCL8, a proinflammatory oncogene is highly expressed in cervical cancer tissues [83]. IL-2, IL-8 and IL-6 expression is significantly correlated with poor prognosis [84–86].…”

“…CXCL8 also promotes angiogenesis and cell migration, induces EMT in CRC [183,186], attracts and activates MDSCs to form NETs, and helps tumors evade the immune system [187]. Due to the above protumor effects, high expression of CXCL8 potentially serves as an unfavorable prognostic marker in numerous human cancers, including CRC [167,188], cervical cancer [189], and lung adenocarcinoma [190]. Consistently, CXCL8 has also been a strong predictor for poor outcome in various treatments including chemo-immunotherapy [191] in pancreatic cancer or aflibercept therapy in metastatic CRC [192].…”

“…Interestingly, all of the above genes have been shown to be associated with cervical cancer. Yan R et al found that CXCL8 had prognostic value in cervical carcinoma patients [32]. Tian R et al identi ed the role of MMP1 in cervical cancer [33].…”
