The comparative of activator effect and fermentation time on nutrient quality, physical quality (temperature, pH) in compost

Abstract: Activator in compost has key role to get soil nutrient more nutritious. Compost is one of organic material that help environment keep always good. This study was conducted to determine the effectiveness of Stardec and EM4 using cow feces, chicken manure, rice straw, palm fronds and palm leaves. Compost is one type of organic fertilizer derived from plant and animal waste which is very useful for improving nutrients in the soil. Most farms in Indonesia do not use waste such as animal manure to be used as compos… Show more

“…The final result of the compost meets the compost criteria according to SNI 19-7030-2004, namely the pH of the compost is in the range of 6.80-7.49. In the decomposition process of organic material, it depends on the length of the fermentation process, the longer the fermentation process takes, the more H+ ions there will be as a result of the activity of microorganisms decomposing organic material so that the pH becomes acidic [22]. In line with opinion [23] the longer fermentation time will increase the activity of microorganisms to use carbohydrates in the metabolic process and have an impact on increasing lactic acid.…”

“…Various microbial activities require a suitable acid and alkaline environment during the treatment of bovine manure with ectopic fermentation bedding. Studies have indicated that the appropriate pH for bovine manure during fermentation is neutral or weakly alkaline ( Sadeli et al, 2022 ). In the present study, the pH of all groups varied a little between 6.5 and 9.0, with a trend of rapid decline followed by an increase and then a decrease to a flat and slightly alkaline environment.…”

“…This is consistent with the findings in the studies of Kim et al (2012) and Yamane (2016) . The use of pH indicators to track the environment within the pile during bovine manure fermentation can provide effective insight into the utilization of organic matter by microorganisms within the pile so that the turning conditions can be adjusted in time for smooth bovine manure fermentation ( Sadeli et al, 2022 ).…”
