The complete chloroplast genome sequence of Dendrobium thyrsiflorum (Orchidaceae) and its phylogenetic analysis

Abstract: Dendrobium thyrsiflorum Rchb.f., a native species to China, is widely used as an important garden flower and a traditional Chinese medicine. Herein, the complete chloroplast (cp) genome of D. thyrsiflorum was deciphered by high-throughput sequencing. The cp genome exhibited a typical quadripartite cycle of 151,686 bp in length, comprising of a pair of inverted repeats (IRa and IRb) of 26,293 bp which were intersected by a large single copy (LSC) region of 84,749 bp and a small… Show more

“…However, the DC stems are in short supply due to the scarcity of resources, and D. thyrsiflorum (DT) stems are consciously or unconsciously regarded as alternatives due to the high similarity in morphologies of species recorded in the Pharmacopoeia [ 6 ]. At present, the DT species is known as an endemic herb and important garden flower distributed in southeast China [ 7 ]. The phytochemical and bioactive information of DT stems is inadequate, hindering the development of the materials.…”

“…As a model, Dendrobium thyrsiflorum Rchb.f. is affected and threatened in its natural habitat due to its ornamental value and over-exploitation (Zhu et al 2019). We successfully applied these results in the culture establishment and conservation of other rare orchids, such as Dendrobium officinale and Nervilia spp.…”

“…(Qi et al 2017). Due to the over-exploitation of wild resources and narrow distribution, the wild populations of G. rigescens are severely threatened (Zhu et al 2019). To date, the previous studies were mainly focused on its resource, chemical composition, genetic diversity, and pharmacodynamics (Xu et al 2009;Wu et al 2017), rarely involved in its genomes.…”
