The complete chloroplast genome sequence of Salix kochiana Trautv. and its phylogenetic analysis

Abstract: Salix kochiana Trautvetter 1837 is one of the highest value shrubs present in northern China with important economic and ecological benefits. This study revealed the structural characteristics and phylogenetic relationships of chloroplast genes in S. kochiana Trautv. The results showed that the length of the complete chloroplast genome was 155,657 bp, which was a typical circular double-stranded structure, including an 84,458 bp large single-copy region (LSC), a 16,221 bp smal… Show more

“…There are unexplored Salix plants such as S. schwerinii (SS) and S. kochiana (SK), although these species are traditionally used as medicinal plants, mainly due to their salicin Horticulturae 2023, 9, 955 2 of 9 being recognized as an anti-inflammatory compound, pain reliever, and febrifuge [4,12]. A few researchers have undertaken taxonomic and species divergence studies of SK and SS [13,14], but studies on their phytochemistry are not available. Wang et al [14] described SK as an important plant with fast growth and luxuriant foliage, receiving attention for use as woven goods, animal feed, etc.…”

Wang et al [14] described SK as an important plant with fast growth and luxuriant foliage, receiving attention for use as woven goods, animal feed, etc. Berlin et al [15] also described the fast growth of SS, and, in addition, SS has resistance to Melampsora larici-epitea leaf rust that causes severe loss yields.…”

“…With the development of high-throughput sequencing technology and low sequencing cost, increasing amounts of cp genomic data have been accumulated (Hatmaker et al, 2020;Shidhi et al, 2021;Wei et al, 2021;Zhang et al, 2021). To date, the cp genome of Salix has been reported (Chen et al, 2019;Guo et al, 2021;Li et al, 2021;Gulyaev et al, 2022;Wang et al, 2022). The published cp genomic data of these species offer important references for related research (Lauron-Moreau et al, 2015;Zong et al, 2019;Meucci et al, 2021).…”
