The Crystal and Molecular Structure of 12, 13‐Dibromopseurotin

Abstract: The crystal structure of 12,13‐dibromopseurotin has been determined by single crystal X‐ray analysis. The crystals belong to space group P21 with a = 16.75, b = 9.63, c = 7.42 Å, β 95.9°, Z = 2. The structure was solved by the heavy atom technique and refined to R = 0.062 with 819 significant reflexions for 299 parameters.

“…13 Some years ago the main metabolite from culture filtrates of the fungus Pseudeurotium ovalis STOLK (Ascomycetes), ovalicin, was isolated, its structure was elucidated [2], and its immunosuppressive activity [3] and its biosyntliesis ~ 41 were studied. We now report on the isolationl) and structural determination of a second, minor, metabolite of this microorganism, which we name pseurotin (1).…”

“…The following chemical transformations confirmed these conclusions and provided some indications concerning the nature of the unknown structural elements. The final proof of structure and the determination of the absolute configuration of pseurotin A (1) was adduced by the X-ray analysis of the 12,13dibromo derivative 2 [5].…”

“…With its y -1actam moiety, spirostaphylotrichin A (1) is structurally related to the tetramic acids, e.g. a -cyclopiazonic acid [2], erythroskyrine [3], and tenuazonic acid [4], to the cytochalasans [5], and to the pseurotins [6]. In these secondary metabolites, the biogenetic origin of the y-lactam ring is mixed, i.e.…”
