The current situation and trend of tomato cultivation in China

Abstract: Tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Miller) is an importantvegetable crop widely cultivated in China. According to the climate, four ecological districts of tomato cultivation can be distinguished, namely Southern District, Middle and Eastern District, Northern District, and Northeastern District. Tomatoes are grown mainly in plastic tunnels or in open fields. The varieties with large fruit, red or pink are favored. Though there are many diseases and pests which attack tomatoes, only a few of them were included in… Show more

“…For example, US267, USM and USHZ significantly improved cucumber growth in all cucumber growth stages. Previous research reported that substrates reduced the production constraints inherent in soil production by reduced the use of water, gas for greenhouse heating and fertilizer 39 . Microorganisms present in microbial fertilizers were reported to promote the transformation of organic nutrients in the substrate; accelerate the absorption, transport, assimilation and accumulation of elements by the plant; improve the plant’s utilization rate of nutrients; and improve the yield and quality of cucumber 40 .…”

“…Zhongshu No. 4) seedlings in China concluded the roles of exogenous GSH is mainly through the modulation of the ion homeostasis and polyamine metabolism pathways ( Xu et al, 2000 ; Zhou et al, 2019 ). Under 100 mM of salt (NaCl) stress, the tomato seedlings resulted in retardation in seedling growth, caused by the imbalance of ionic homeostasis due to the excessive accumulation and uptake in Na + and Cl − .…”

“…Its yield is high, and its planting area is growing, especially in greenhouses where the planting area increases rapidly [ 13 ]. However, tomato is susceptible to diseases and pests during their growth, which seriously affects its yield and quality and causes enormous economic losses to farmers [ 14 ]. The outbreak is uncertain due to the diversity of tomato diseases and pests [ 15 ], the types of chemical sprays are diverse and the cost of treatment is often higher than that of prevention.…”
