The Deformation and Shear Bands in the Fe–3%Si Alloy

Abstract: This paper deals with a metallographic study of shear and deformation bands, which are formed and developed during rolling and fatigue tests of single crystals and polycrystals of Fe-3% Si. The effect of the initial orientation of the single crystals, dimensions of grains in polycrystals, thickness of the samples and certain rolling factors on the formation of banded structures was analyzed. The effect of these structures on the structure and the texture, which appear in the deformed alloy subject to annealing… Show more

“…1e-1g). It naturally follows from the fact that the PR nuclei, 1 which are formed at the main mesostructure compo nents (deformation bands, shear bands, deformation twins), have a preferred Goss orientation and agrees with the earlier results [7][8][9][10][11][12][13]. The spread of the basic orientation in both types of samples has close magni tudes, i.e., ±3° for α, ±10° for β, and ±7° for γ (Figs.…”

“…An analysis of the parts of the crystal in which abnor mally grown grains neighbor grains grown via the nor mal growth mechanism has demonstrated that SR orientations can be described by a quartet of orienta tions close to {521}〈012〉, which is related with the ini tial Goss orientation by a rotation around [011], [01 ], [101], and [10 ] axes at an angle of ~30°.…”

“…The primary recrystallization (PR) nuclei with the Goss orientation formed in the deformed Fe-3% Si alloy can originate in transition bands, shear bands, and Neumann bands (deformation twins) [1][2][3][4][5][9][10][11]. It has been shown in works [10][11][12] that the formation of the nuclei of Goss grains at twins is accompanied by the appearance and evolution of special misorienta tions (Σ3 → Σ9 and Σ27) in the crystal mesostructure.…”
