Abstract:The recent post-Glacial Mediterranean sea-level rise converted mountain valleys to islandic embayments. These bays exhibit distinct hydrographic and biogeochemical characteristics, seasonally alternating thermohaline functioning and their coastal ecosystems support thriving coastal activities.
