The Development of Cloud Energy Management

Abstract: Abstract:The energy management service (EMS) has been utilized for saving energy since 1982 by managing the energy usage of site or facilities through the microprocessor, computer, Ethernet, internet, and wireless sensor network. The development and represented function groups of EMS are illustrated in the supplementary file of this paper. Along with this tendency, a cloud EMS, named the intelligent energy management network (iEN), was launched by Chunghwa Telecom in 2011 and tested during a pilot run from 201… Show more

“…In this sense, cloud computing is a technology to remotely store, monitor, and control any data from any place in the world [13]. This technology can be applied successfully in many areas such as the mobile business, electronic commerce, and data storage service [14], which makes revolutionary improvements to the applications of the information technology (IT) industry [15]. Given its flexible and scalable characteristics, being able to handle large volumes of data, cloud computing can also be applied in smart grid domains [2].…”

“…Reports show that energy consumption has occupied a significant proportion of the total cost of data centers [7]. Energy efficiency is becoming a challenge in data center management [8][9][10][11]. In cloud computing, virtualization is adopted for abstraction and encapsulation such that the underlying infrastructure can be unified as a pool of resources and multiple applications can be executed within isolated virtual machines (VMs) on the same server simultaneously [12].…”
