The Development of Efficient Contaminated Polymer Materials Shredding in Recycling Processes

Abstract: Recently, a dynamic increase in the number of polymer elements ending their life cycle has been observed. There are three main ways of dealing with polymer waste: reuse in an unchanged form, recycling (both material and energy), and disposal (mainly in the form of landfilling or incineration). The legislation of European countries promotes in particular two forms of waste management: reuse and recycling. Recycling processes are used to recover materials and energy especially from contaminated waste, which are … Show more

“…Polymeric materials are widely used in various fields of technology. More and more often they replace traditional construction materials used in the production of machines and mechanisms elements or are used as functional materials for abrasive flow machining [1,2]. Therefore, the authors developed an effective finishing technique that improves the surface roughness of polymer products [3][4][5].…”

“…When we mingle polymers-specifically polymers incompatible by either processing temperature range or chemistry-we turn a cyclic economy resource into a waste stream. Further, non-polymer contaminants, for example metals, soil, or paper, can affect properties in recycled components or ruin a process run and lead to electricity generated by polymer used fuel or the components being discarded into a landfill (Eriksen 2018, Flizikowski 2021.…”

“…The group of machines, which are subject to high environmental requirements are shredders [6]. Due to the fact that shredders are characterized by low efficiency of operation, the search for better, more pro-environmental construction solutions has been conducted for many years [7][8][9][10][11][12]. The shredding process can be realized in various branches, e.g.…”
