The effect of bleaching on toothbrush abrasion of resin composites

Abstract: Aim:This experimental study was designed to focus on the effects of bleaching on toothbrush abrasion in three types of composites with different filler size.Materials and Methods:Forty eight disks were prepared from three types of composite and divided into 6 groups. In the first three groups the abrasion test was done. The remaining groups were bleached and the abrasion test was performed. The weight of the samples before and after abrasion was measured. Statistical analysis was done with one-way ANOVA and Du… Show more

“…Samples in group 2 were subjected to Opalescence ® PF (Ultradent Product, South Jordan, UT, USA) 10% CP for eight hours per day, for 14 days according to the suggested wear time of the manufacturer. [9] Samples in group 3 were bleached with Opalescence ® PF (Ultradent Product, South Jordan, UT, USA) 20% CP for two hours per day for a total of 14 days. In groups 2 and 3, prior to each bleaching procedure, the samples were taken out from the distilled water bath, air-dried with an air jet spray for 60 seconds.…”

“…Various functions of saliva are implicated in the maintenance of oral health and the protection of our teeth. [ 26 ] Previous studies carried out by Hila Hajizadeh et al .,[ 27 ] Zuryati et al .,[ 28 ] Kaur and Nandlal[ 29 ] have evaluated abrasion produced on dental materials. However, these studies also had the limitation that the effect of saliva was not evaluated.…”

“…Hajizadeh et al [14] demonstrated that bleaching significantly increased the abrasion of composite resins, and NF composite resin was the most resistant to abrasion, while MH type was the least resistant. Furthermore, one typical pattern to maintain oral health during at-home bleaching procedure is to brush teeth with a toothpaste after removal of the bleaching tray [15].…”
