The Effect of Chronic Administration of a Synthetic LH‐RH Analogue Intranasally in Cryptorchid Boys

Abstract: Eighteen boys with either unilateral or bilateral cryptorchidism were treated with a synthetic LH-RH analogue ("D-Leu 6, Des-Gly-10 LH-RH ethylamide") intranasally. The peptide was dissolved in aqueous solution (25 micrograms in 0,2 ml) and administered in the form of nasal drops. The patients were divided in two groups: in group A, 50 micrograms of the synthetic LH-RH analogue were administered intranasally every 48 h for 36 days; in group B same dose was given every 24 h. Additionally, in 4 cases a LH-RH tes… Show more

“…Great variation of the effects of hormonal treatment have been reported, with success rates from 0% to 55% and 9% to 78% with hCG and GnRH, respectively, depending on inclusion of different proportions of boys with retractile testes (3). Cryptorchidism has also been treated with human menopausal gonadotropin (4), synthetic analogues of GnRH (5–7) and combined hormonal therapy (4,8–12).…”

“…Its use in Hungary is limited by the expences and difficulties in commercial availability. Literature data and our own experience show that besides its advantageous properties this treatment modality reaches or even depasses the effectiveness of other conservative drug regimens (Bulyovszky and Racz -1982;Molnar -1971;Papp -1985) HCG and LH-RH treatment may not only the combined but following unsuccessful LH-RH therapy an adjuvant Choriogonin cure is strongly advocated (Hadziselimovic -1983). When this latter remains without effect LH-RH treatment should be repeated.…”

“…First a younger age is chosen for therapeutic actions that is less than two years of age instead of puberty (Bartsch and Frick -1974). Secondly conservative treatment was completed by the use of drugs containing LH-RH (Bartsch and Frick -1974;Frick et al -1980;Happ et al -1975;Papp -1988;Schreiber et al -1986). Nowadays infertility due to cryptor-chidism can be prevented in many cases with adequate therapy.…”
