The Effect of LED Lighting on The Growth of Seedlings of Hybrid Tomato

Abstract: A study was conducted to evaluate the effect of LED lighting on the growth of seedlings of hybrid tomato plants. Four hybrids (Captain F1, Refiner F1, Coral Reef F1 and Fire F1), seven treatments of irradiators (monochromatic red, green, blue, white) and three dual light treatments (green+blue, blue+red, green+red) were carried out in the laboratory of artificial climate. Radiation with monochromatic had a role in increasing hypocotyl length, the height of plant, transpiration and stomata connection. The resul… Show more

“…The plants grown under red light achieved a higher average fresh and dry weight content after 14 and 28 days of the experiment than the plants grown under blue light. This was confirmed by the results of several other studies on different plant species, such as tomato seedlings, Lactuca sativa and Oncidium orchids [ 39 , 40 , 41 , 42 , 43 ], according to which, the lowest fresh weight was achieved in seedlings after exposure to blue light. This could be related to the fact that red light has a direct effect on the increase in plant biomass, while blue light has an indirect effect on the increase in plant biomass, as it accelerates photosynthetic processes [ 44 ].…”

“…Tomato seedlings were grown for 31 days to observe the effect of light spectral composition on plant height (cm). The plant's root system and the plant's height grew thanks to the monochromatic red light's promotion of cell division, stem elongation, and leaf expansion [29]. Then followed the radiation (green+red), then monochromatic green, then white, and finally monochromatic blue, which had the least impact.…”

“…Responses of LED light vary according to plant species. Various effects of LED lights have been studied in some crops such as pakcoy (9), growth and development in vitro plantlet of vanilla (10), growth of seedling of hybrid tomato (11) and growth, development and mineral content in okra (12). The effect of light spectrum of artificial lighting on plant growth and photomorphogenesis in vegetable and ornamental crops has been reviewed (7).…”
