The effect of maximum bite force on marginal bone loss of mini‐implants supporting a mandibular overdenture: a randomized controlled trial

Abstract: No relationship was found between mBF and MBL for patients wearing overdentures retained on mini-implants using bar or ball attachment systems.

“…Two mesh models of overdentures supported using two RDIs and four MDIs were generated using quadratic tennode tetrahedral structural solid element (Solid 187) with hyper-elastic and lager deformation capabilities after the mesh convergence test while controlling for strain energy An important caveat of reduced diameter implants is that MDIs are weak because of their smaller diameter compared to conventional RDIs and are thus subject to fracture or deformation (Petrie & Williams 2005;Allum et al 2008;Jofré et al 2010;Wada et al 2012;Takagaki et al 2014). The bones that must carry mechanical loads adapt their strength to the load applied by bone modeling/remodeling.…”

“…Therefore, the minimal surgical intervention using mini dental implants (MDIs) has been suggested to reduce the surgical complexity and morbidity for elderly patients. The use of regular sized implants (>3 mm in diameter) would require bone reshaping or grafting (Siddiqui et al 2006;Christensen 2008;Jofré et al 2010). The advantages of MDIs are that they can be used with the minimally invasive surgery, placed within narrow or otherwise constrained sites, and offer a far more economical solution (Takagaki et al 2014).…”
