The effect of temperature on some engineering and consolidation properties of soft soil

Abstract: Research on soil behavior due to changes in heat temperature in the soil mass is still relatively small. Even though, the phenomenon of increasing temperature in the soil mass is frequently occured. For example, there is an increase in temperature in the ground besides the problem of heat propagation under the road due to land fires, as well as the presence of waste heat from nuclear power plant in the soil medium, the operation of electric cables in the ground which causes heat, and the gas pipelines and oil … Show more

“…The soil structure in such areas is known as difficult soils, which is generally indicated by the low bearing capacity of the soil, high water content, high compression, and high groundwater level, or even practically the same as the ground level. Soil consolidation simply refers to water discharge through the pores, due to applied force (load), subse-quently leading to land subsidence (Rusdiansyah et al, 2021). This problem is a factor causing building failure (construction), mainly due to settlement.…”

“…The abundance of land masses in Kalimantan, Indonesia, are predominantly swamps, with soil types ranging from soft clay to peat (Rusdiansyah et al, 2021). Indonesia is one of the countries whose land has the potential to experience damage due to land shifts.…”
