The effect of three dimensional activity distribution on the dose planning of radioimmunotherapy for patients with advanced intraperitoneal pseudomyxoma

Abstract: The variation of biologic clearance indicates that a 3D dose calculation method incorporating measured activity distributions is needed to quantify absorbed dose distribution.

“…Another cautionary issue regarding the study is that the dose of radioactive mAb delivered IV was 1 MBq, a dose which was enough for imaging but not for therapeutic treatment. In two subsequent studies, a therapeutic dose (3-4 GBq) of 131 I-B72.3 mAb was administered to PMP patients 112 , 113 ( Figure 5 ). However, there were no description of whether the clinical manifestation or prognosis of PMP patients were improved.…”

“…The 18 F-FDG tracer is a radiopharmaceutical analogue of glucose metabolism that reflects cellular activity and proliferation . Metabolic variables allow for a noninvasive and quantitative assessment of tumor burden by analyzing the 3-dimensional distribution of activity based on the photons emitted by the labeled tracer . The standardized uptake value (SUV) is the most widely used method for quantifying 18 F-FDG uptake.…”

“…[19] Radioimmunotherapy was introduced in Finland in 1994 for treating successfully intraperitoneal carcinomatoses, and for this purpose 3-D-dosimetry program was developed. [20] An interesting approach has been radiochemotherapy in head and neck cancer using In-111-BLMC, a tumor-targeting synergistically cytotoxic and radiotoxic compound, which was used in clinical trials. [21] This invention led to multiple inventions of creating multi-potential intelligent targeted nanoparticles for drug delivery.…”
