The Effectiveness of Applying Realistic Mathematics Education Approach in Teaching Statistics in Grade 7 to Students' Mathematical Skills

Abstract: The research was carried out to verify the effectiveness of applying Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) on the development of skills required by students in statistical content in grade 7. For achieving research objectives, the pedagogical experiment was conducted in the form of intrinsic legalization for forty-eight 7th-grade students at Tang Phu Nhan B Junior School, District 9, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Accordingly, data on pre-test results, study sheets, posttest, and student learning performance were … Show more

“…Characteristics in education, especially in realistic mathematics learning, is learning that requires students to play an active role or as the main character in a lesson and the teacher acts as a facilitator and mentor for students (Phuong Uyen et al, 2021;Rusdi et al, 2020;Wiratman et al, 2019). This is in line with the research conducted by (Fitriani & Maulana, 2016), with the results of the study stating that there are differences in the effect of the realistic and conventional approaches on students' mathematical understanding and problem-solving abilities.…”

“…This success can be attributed to the connection of the problem with the previous activities that apply the RME approach. Students can understand the concept of dilation well through the RME approach, which is also recognized by (Priciliya, 2021;Uyen et al, 2021) as a relevant and meaningful learning approach. (Aprilianto & Sutarni, 2023) also emphasized Education and Geogebra Media that the RME approach provides opportunities for students to improve critical thinking skills and student learning outcomes.…”

“…While the rediscovery process makes use of the mathematization notion, the rediscovery principle might be motivated by informal problem-solving techniques. Uyen et al, (2021) defined horizontal and vertical mathematization as two different methods of mathematization. Identifying, defining, and picturing issues differently are examples of horizontal mathematics, as are turning practical issues into mathematical ones.…”
