The effectiveness of biodrying waste treatment in full scale reactor

Abstract: Abstract:The differences between the composting, stabilization and drying processes were discussed. The law criteria for mechanical-biological treatment plant were presented. The purpose of the article was to assess the effectiveness of biodrying MSW (municipal solid waste) in a full scale reactor taking into account the degree of biological decomposition of organic matter and its suitability for RDF (refuse derived fuel). Therefore the microbial activity was measured as the O 2 /96 h uptake. CO 2 /96 h produc… Show more

“…According to [19] the continuous decrease in the feedstock humidity could be additional indicator of the organic matter decomposition, because in result of biodrying process about 28% of initial waste mass was evaporated as a CO 2 and H 2 O. Similar results had been reported in publications [20,21]. Temperature changes registered in the different reactor parts are presented in Fig.…”

“…where the term "eliminated" refers to carbon dioxide removed from the organic material. The microbial activity expressed as oxygen consumption carried out in a short period of time (1-4 days) could be taken as representing the biodegradation of any biomass [7][8][9][10].…”

“…gdzie termin "usunięty'' odnosi się do ditlenku węgla usuniętego z substancji organicznej. Aktywność drobnoustrojów wyrażoną jako zapotrzebowanie mikroorganizmów na tlen w krótkim czasie (1-4 dni) można zastosować jako wskaźnik bio -rozkładu w reprezentatywnej próbie dowolnej biomasy [7][8][9][10].…”

“…As a result of landfill functioning, pollution emissions are generated, which may pose hazard to environment, e.g. biogas or leachates [4][5][6]. Landfill leachates consist not only of rainwater flowing through landfill pit, but also of all substances and ingredients washed out from wastes, and products of biochemical reactions taking place in wastes kept in a landfill.…”
