“…20 Several agents against CV have been trialled clinically and in experimental models, including lazaroids (21-aminosteriond tirilazad mesylate); the endothelin antagonists nitric oxide and nitroglycerin; glutamate antagonists; leukocyte adhesion inhibitors; perfluorocarbons; protein kinase inhibitors and others. [21][22][23] Tirilazad mesylate, protein kinase inhibitors (fasudil) and endothelin antagonists seem the agents with the greatest potential to prevent the adverse effects of vasospasm. 22,23 Data are mean ± standard deviation.…”

“…Resveratrol treatment was shown to decrease the oxidative damage in all these 3 models (Ates et al, 2006; Ates et al, 2007; Karaoglan et al, 2008) The earliest study of oxidative stress after resveratrol treatment in traumatic CNS injury compared methylprednisolone (MP) treatment to resveratrol treatment in a weight-drop model of rat SCI, and showed that resveratrol decreased lipid peroxidation and edema, and increased ultrastructural integrity (Yang and Piao, 2003). This was supported by a subsequent study that showed that resveratrol treatment decreased MDA levels and preserved mitochondrial integrity after spinal cord ischemia in rabbits (Kaplan et al, 2005).…”

“…Thus, the use of free radical scavengers in animal models of SAH [11,12] and some clinical trials [13,14] have demonstrated beneficial effects of these agents on ischemic neurological deficits due to SAH-induced vasospasms. We have recently shown that melatonin, which is a potent free radical scavenger, reversed SAH-induced histopathological and biochemical alterations [15].…”
