The effects of self‐performance management video program on patients receiving hemodialysis

Abstract: Aim This study attempted to investigate the effects of a self‐performance management video program using a tablet PC on self‐care knowledge, self‐care behavior, state anxiety and physiological index in patients receiving hemodialysis. The most significant difference between the SMA in our study and the conventional intervention of self-management in patients on PD based on phone counseling (Chow et al, 2008) or a video program (Cho & Park, 2020) is that the SMA not only delivers the knowledge but also provides directly applicable health behavior logs, blood test management, information on the main drugs, and food nutrition facts related to serum K and P, as well as the alarm function, all of which allow patients to self-check their log and communicate with healthcare professionals on a weekly basis to determine their own behaviors. This supports the results of a previous study (Kang & Lee, 2020), where checking self-care logs and performance levels was effective for improving patients' health behaviors.…”
