The EMIL project at BESSY II: Beamline design and performance

Abstract: The Energy Materials In-Situ Laboratory Berlin (EMIL) at BESSY-II is currently under construction. Two canted undulators for soft-and hard X-rays will be installed into the BESSY II storage ring in one straight section, complex beamlines with more than twenty optical elements will be set up and a new laboratory building attached to BESSY II will host three endstations and a large UHV-transfer system connecting various HV-and UHV-deposition systems. The undulators, UE48 and U17, provide a broad energy spectrum … Show more

“…The operando synchrotron-based near-ambient pressure X-ray photoelectron (NAP-XPS) and near-edge X-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopies (NEXAFS) were performed at the CAT branch of the EMIL beamlines (Energie Materials In-situ Laboratory Berlin) at the synchrotron radiation facility BESSY II of the Helmholtz Zentrum Berlin. , The gas-phase composition was monitored on-line by a differentially pumped quadrupole mass spectrometer (QMS, Pfeiffer PrismaPro), which was connected to the experimental cell through a leak valve. The NEXAFS spectra were recorded in the total electron yield (TEY) mode.…”

“…The spectrum was acquired at the soft X-ray branch of the EMIL beam line (UE48-soft PGM) at the BESSY II synchrotron, ref. [ 11 ] using the CAT (near-ambient pressure X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (NAP-XPS)) end station. The TEY signal was obtained by collecting all released electrons at the entrance aperture of the differentially pumped hemispherical sector analyzer (Specs Phoibos 150 NAP), which was biased to 90 V.…”

“…Combined AP-XPS and AP-HAXPES measurements were performed at the new CAT branch of the EMIL beamline at the synchrotron radiation facility BESSY II of the Helmholtz Zentrum Berlin. 45,46 The reported measurements of LaNiO 3 catalyst in H 2 (sample treated at 400 °C) as well as of the supported Ni/ La 2 O 3 catalyst under H 2 (sample treated at 600 °C) and CO 2 : H 2 (1 : 1) methanation reaction conditions were performed using this instrument. The catalyst was mounted on a sample stage heated from the rear with an IR laser irradiating the plate placed under the pellet.…”
