The emitting species formed by the oxidation of hydrazides with hypohalites or N‐halosuccinimides

Abstract: The chemiluminescence accompanying the oxidation of salicylic hydrazide (2-hydroxybenzoic acid hydrazide) with hypochlorite, hypobromite, N-chlorosuccinimide, N-bromosuccinimide or hydrogen peroxide with cobalt(II) matched the photoluminescence emission of salicylic acid. In a related reaction, the oxidation of a mixture of isoniazid and ammonia, a synergistic effect was observed. The chemiluminescence spectrum for this reaction matches that accompanying the oxidation of the hydrazide, rather than the oxidatio… Show more

“…1474 Francis found that the oxidation of salicylic hydrazide with NBS in alkaline conditions produces salicylic acid. 1475 He also established that the reaction proceeds via the formation of sodium hypobromite at an intermediate stage. 1476 An oxidative esterification method has been developed on the basis of the reactivity of (trialkylstannyl) alkoxides toward NBS.…”

“…The data recorded was an average of 10 scans (1000 ms gate time, 1 nm data interval, 20 nm slit width). Chemiluminescence spectra were collected by mixing reactants in a flow cell, mounted against the emission window of a spectrometer, using a flow-analysis manifold (12,13). The correction factor for the region between 300 nm and 800 nm was established during a previous study (14) using a quartz-halogen tungsten coiled lamp of standard spectral irradiance.…”

“…The relative standard deviation (RSD) is 1.7% (n = 9) for 2.8 × 10 -7 mol dm -3 DBDMH. hypohalites, but this assumption lacks experimental evidence, [6][7][8] i.e., it is not clear whether the release of hypohalite by these hydantoin compounds occurs before or during the CL reaction process. For this reason, a CE separation with CL was carried out in the current work and we hoped to identify how many of active species were actually present in the aqueous solutions of these hydantoin derivatives.…”
