“…The immunohistochemical analysis of epidermal markers in transgenic mice observed the expression of the differentiation and proliferation markers in the suprabasal layers, which are normally confined to the basal layer. Castelijans et al 19 had observed similar immunohistochemical results in human psoriatic skin. These histological changes in the skin appear to be caused by circulating IL-20, because even mice expressing transgene in other tissues (liver) were similarly affected.…”

“…Although activated T lymphocytes and dendritic cells are now generally accepted to be important in the maintenance of psoriasis, both the clinical phenotypes (lesion thickness and scaling) and histological phenotypes are dominated by abnormalities in keratinocyte differentiation and proliferation [19]. To histologically evaluate psoriatic activity, cell proliferation may be evaluated by a proliferating index, such as Ki-67 [20]. Filaggrin is an important protein in the process of differentiation expressed only in well-differentiated keratinized epithelial cells.…”

“…So in total 47 specimens were examined. On each psoriatic lesion clinical parameters for erythema, induration and scaling were assessed on a 5-point scale (by the same investigator [16], allowing a maximum score for the severest psoriatic lesion of 12. Serial sections were used to perform the experiments described below.…”

“…A high-temperature microwave antigen retrieval technique [7]was needed to reveal the Ki-67 epitope. The MIB-1 antibody (Immunotech, Marseille, France) was used according to a protocol formerly described [16, 17]. …”
